"Joyce is a music teacher with an undergraduate degree in music and a Master's in Music Education. Her new book, subtitled "Lap Dulcimer Lessons for the Beginner, Book One DAd Tuning", is designed to be a self-instruction book specifically for the student with little or no music training. Her goal is to teach new dulcimer students in the same way that she would teach new musical concepts to children in the classroom. In fact, she tested her method on eight beginning dulcimer classes over a ten-month period and revisied accordingly. So it is truly student tested. Topics range from basic tuning, strumming and fingering to improvisation, with many stops in-between. The book is easy to read and nicely laid out and should be of significant value to brand-new players."
