The Mountain Dulcimer Plays Hank Williams

For those of you who have been yearning for a tab book of some classic country hits, this book is for you. John has proven himself to be highly skilled at arranging for the mountain dulcimer, as those of you who have his previous book ("New Old Hymns") can attest to.

This book includes 16 of Hank Williams' best known/loved hits, including "Cold, Cold Heart", "I Can't Help it (If I'm Still In Love With You)", "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", "Your Cheatin' Heart", "Jambalaya", "I Saw the Light", "Kaw-Liga", "I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive", and 8 more. There are D-A-d arrangements for all 16 tunes (a few require the use of a capo), and in addition, John has provided D-F#-A arrangements for 4 of those same tunes. That's a total of 20 arrangements - 45 pages in all.

For those of you that have a 1-1/2 fret, John shows you how to make use of it in several arrangements. But for those of you without it, he also explains how to easily play the arrangements without one.

Each arrangement includes the standard music notation (melody line), mountain dulcimer tablature, backup chord designations, and lyrics (all verses included). The arrangements are clear and beautifully crafted to be eminently "playable". The book is spiral-wire bound, with acetate front and back covers.

New Old Hymns
for the Mountain Dulcimer

This book contains twenty hymns, arranged by John Sackenheim using the 1-3-5 tuning. This tuning, and John's arrangements of these hymns, provides the opportunity for mountain dulcimer players to hear the hymns with the fuller sound of more complete chords and embellishments. Some of the hymns would be very hard, or impossible, to play in DAd and DAA. The tablature features the melody notes in large bold numerals and the filler (embellishments) in a smaller, fine line numerals. The beginner can play the bold numbers and the hymn will sound just fine. The intermediate and advanced player can use all the numbers for a more arranged sound.
