These mountain dulcimer wood samples are as close as I could get to the woods I normally carry. Sometimes the Cedar will be a little less grainy and more clear and sometimes it will be colorfully striped. Sometimes it is a little darker than this picture shows, coming close to the depth of color of the Cherry or Mahogany, so when you combine these woods you will not get a lot of color contrast -- they will blend somewhat visually. Cedar tends to soften the look of the woods it is next to whereas Spruce will give a lot of contrast. The Red Cedar musical instument wood that I use will not be the same color as the construction cedar used on decks.
